Research at NMF:

Next Millennium Farms was inspired by the many studies that point to the astronomical global benefits of entomophagy , which catapulted the genesis of the term Geoentomophagy , and spurred the many research projects that Next Millennium Farms is a part of and that are currently under way.

Research is at the core of justifying change. Empirical evidence drives understanding and offers us an opportunity to influence policy, habits, science, knowledge and social order.

The primary research goal of Next Millennium Farms is to invoke global change through participating in the growing evidence and to help establish sound science, illustrating the tremendous environmental, social and nutritional benefits of insect farming and the adoption of insect protein as an integral part of human, pet and livestock diets.

Next Millennium Farms is proud of its associations with many Canadian universities and colleges, excellent analytic laboratories, analysts and PhD consultants.

Next Millennium Farms is currently conducting the following research:

  • Guelph University: analysing the nutritional breakdown of worm meal
  • Loyalist College: determining the agenda and research priorities regarding analysing insect protein flours and its nutritional constituents
  • Other extensive studies have been done regarding the nutritional composition of insect protein flours and food products.

Next Millennium Farms is pleased to announce our collaboration with, Dr. Doug Yungblut Ph.D., P.Ag. the President of Yungblut & Associates Consulting. After growing up on a farm in Ontario, he received his education at the University of Guelph and Purdue University. Doug has over 30 years experience with multinational and Canadian companies in the animal health, biotechnology and animal nutrition sectors. He also has been president of several non profit organizations including most recently, the Ontario Institute of Agrologists. Doug served as President of the Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC) from 2009 to 2011.

Next Millennium Farms is working on licensing to grant the ability to sell insect protein to Canadian farmers. Never before has a farm or farmer in Canada had the legal right, opportunity, or ability to farm and distribute insect protein as eco-feed for livestock. Next Millennium Farms has made it a mission to do just that—bringing this opportunity of a much needed eco-feed for livestock to Canadian farmers.

Dr. Yungblut is the primary consultant on this project with Next Millennium Farms. Next Millennium Farms has made it a mission to do just that—bringing this opportunity of a much needed eco-feed for livestock to Canadian farmers.

Together with Australian partner, OV Group, Next Millennium Farms is working on exporting insect protein into Australia for local and international distribution as eco-pet food and eco-feed for livestock.
